The Ulster-Greene ARC Foundation raises funds and competes for grants that
offer a "margin of excellence" in the services we provide. The contributions
raised provide for various items and equipment that do not represent "frills"
or "extras" but important improvements that you would want for a friend
or family member who faces daily life with a disability.
For instance, an anonymous donor purchased a special computer that acts
as a voice for people who cannot speak on their own. A mother's eyes still
fill when she recounts the first time her daughter told her "I love you
mommy," through the use of the computer. Grants from elected officials
have paid for energy efficient windows and doors that cut our heating
and cooling costs and have made one of our residences more comfortable
for the people who live there; another grant helped us offset the cost
of a new roof on one of our assembly plants. Contributions paid for special
training tools that are used in helping people learn work skills.
Money is raised through one of the many special events that we offer,
through direct mail and direct solicitation, through planned giving, and
corporate sponsorship as well as through grant proposals. Donors include
people from all walks of life as well as local businesses. Among the events
sponsored by the Foundation are Ulster-Greene ARC's Holiday Magic Gift
Auction; carnivals; and an antique show. We also receive funding through
United Way of Ulster County. We maintain a planned giving program that
offers special tax benefits to people of even modest means.
Gifts to the Ulster-Greene ARC Foundation are tax-deductible to the
extent provided by law. For more information contact the Foundation at
